While at our vet partner's, Dr. Terry's. Zsa Zsa has been in the hands of love, nurturing, and freedom to be the goofy and loving dog she is. She was shaved down to relieve her of the matting and suffering from filth and discomfort.
Cushing's Syndrome results from the body producing too much of the hormone cortisol. Although Cushing's is usually a life-long condition, it can be managed with proper medication, regular blood tests, and monitoring.
Since Zsa Zsa has been diagnosed and received adequate medications and monitoring, she has blossomed into a new dog.
Although we are starting to see a slight change in people adopting older dogs, they are still the number one dogs to be placed on death row and surrendered in exchange for younger dogs. One of our greatest missions is to enforce and educate adopters that dogs are for life, not just a period in time.
One of the most challenging things to witness in a shelter is when an older dog has been ripped away from everyone and everything they have ever known. Dogs become so used to being a part of a family and are comforted by the familiarity of their lives; when they lose that, they continue to search for their people and wonder when they are coming back for them. Day after day, they fall deeper into sadness and despair.
Our greatest wish for Zsa Zsa is to raise $6100 so we, as a community, can sponsor her first year of both medications and veterinary care. We believe this to be the best route for Zsa Zsa to get her home to a responsible and loving family. Our rescue will directly pay for her vet bills for one year, and we will stay in close contact with her family to work together to provide Zsa Zsa with the best care.
Zsa Zsa is waiting for her new family, and we need your support and contributions to grant her wish. She is playful, funny, loving, and patient, as seen in this photo! LOL.
She also LOVES car rides and being a part of everything!
Will you please help?
Hounds in Pounds
About the Organization
The mission of Hounds in Pounds is to end the killing of thousands of adoptable dogs in the United States. Our multi-faceted approach combining rescue, fostering, adoption, spay/neuter outreach and public education. HIPsters are transported to private veterinarians for proper medical treatment, and are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and tested for heartworm before being placed into loving homes.
