It used to be that when a dog wasn't working out in a home, the dog would be brought to a shelter. Often the reason the dog wasn't working out was lack of training.
Nowadays, shelters are not accepting owner surrenders because they are overflowing already. But the owner still has a dog they don't think they can live with. So they try dumping the dog in a neighborhood, hoping that they will end up in a good home. Some do, some don't. If they are rescued, those bad behaviors are still there and now the rescuer has a dog that they can't adopt out and didn't want in the first place. So...now what?
The Schrodi Memorial Training Fund provides scholarships to help fund high quality dog training. Which keeps dogs off the streets, out of shelters, and in their loving homes.
