Here is a little more information about our featured senior and special needs foster dogs: Chico, Raleigh, and Mabel.
Chico is a senior owner surrender who came to us as a referral from another rescue. His owner passed away, and the family didn’t want him. He came to us with severe glaucoma and sadly, not in the greatest condition. He has since had his bad eye removed - along with about half his teeth! He’s much happier and healthier today, and he’s about 9 years old. Chico gets along great with everyone, not just animals, but people as well.
Raleigh is a senior owner surrender who also came to us as a referral from another rescue. His family had to move overseas for work and he was given up. Raleigh had severe dual cherry eyes, which have since been corrected. He also had several large masses on his body, which have been removed, too. Raleigh is a tank of Boston, and he gets along beautifully with everyone.
Mabel just came to us from Bedford Animal Services last week after being picked up as a stray and never claimed. She is a dainty senior Boston Terrier lady who is probably going to require a fair amount of vetting. She’s brand new to us, so she’ll be assessed by one of our vets shortly. Mabel is a little sweetheart who appears to get along with everyone. She spent a little time in a temp foster home and is now settled in with her foster family. She’s done very well with all the cats, dogs, piggies & birds she’s met so far.
Dogs like Chico and Raleigh could have ended up in a shelter like Mabel if it weren’t for American Boston Terrier Rescue & Rehab. Mabel was incredibly lucky that we were there to spring her from the kill shelter and she has a second chance! The truth is that a lot of animals won’t make it out. Our dogs’ biggest advocates are the volunteers telling their stories to the public. They love them, and often, the love they give these homeless animals is the only love they will ever know.
They need us, and we are confident that with your help, we can save more...
December 3rd is GivingTuesday. It was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good and help others. GivingTuesday is four days after Black Friday and the day after Cyber Monday. We ask that if at all possible, you try to spend just a tiny bit less on those days, so that you can give a tiny bit to us. That’s all we ask… If we can get enough people to give us a small amount, we can get through this tough time. We're pleading for your help... We need to catch a break.
While we are so grateful to our community of supporters for helping us survive this long, we are continuing to struggle and unfortunately moving backwards, in terms of our expenses versus our donations. We don't know how much longer we can sustain this trend, but we can’t stop saving these precious souls. They are counting on us!
If you're not in the position to donate, you can also help by sharing our campaign with others you think might want to help too.
Somehow, we always find a way to make it through for the benefit of these sweet babies. At times, it has seemed impossible and we look back and wonder how we got by. Then we quickly remember, our miracle is you!
Thank you for helping us in honor of GivingTuesday and in the spirit of the holidays…
