GREAT Rescue's needs for #GivingTuesday

For the past three years, we at GREAT Rescue were feeling pretty down because our beloved mission to rescue Golden Retrievers from Turkey was indefinitely put on hold due to the CDC's restrictive regulations. Last summer, we joined with a Golden rescue in Ohio to start bringing in Goldens from the Amish and breeder puppy mills.

Fast forward to early Spring of 2023; the medical exam upon coming into our rescue for one of these beautiful Golden girls revealed that she was "with puppies" when she came to us.

Thanks to you, our wonderful donors, G.R.E.A.T. Rescue has reached 57% our fundraising goal! We couldn't do what we do without generous folks like you. Your donation has made it possible for us to bring in more dogs from these Ohio Amish breeder puppy mills.

To see what a difference we can make in the lives of these dogs, below are the before and after photos of Poppy. She was brought into our rescue on July 5th, so absolutely terrified that she wouldn't even walk! We had to lift her out of the transport van and put her into a crate. Now look at her! She has earned her Canine Good Citizen award. This is what love and dedication look like.

Thank you again for your generosity.

Campaign Details

In the summer of 2022, one of our Golden Rescue partners in Ohio asked if we would like to join them in bringing beautiful Golden Retrievers from the Amish and breeder puppy mills in Ohio. Without hesitation, we agreed and our first transport arrived with two gorgeous Golden girls.

Seeing the need, beauty and love these Goldens had to offer, we were pumped and ready for anything that came along. Little did we know that a BIG surprise was awaiting us with the arrival of Echo, Cedar and Poppy. As always, the first step upon arrival is a medical exam, vaccinations, bath, etc. Echo was noted to be a little “round” around the middle and yup, you guessed it, much to our surprise and delight, x-rays revealed she was “with puppies!!!” Our amazing friends, Pip and Greg, stepped up to the plate and offered their home, expertise and hearts to our family-to-be while the rest of us played the waiting game.

Five weeks later, on the night of March 16th, Echo, now Abby, gave birth to twelve, yes that’s right, twelve gorgeous puppies; eight females and four males. As each new pup arrived, Pip and Greg played tag team with their round the clock duties of feeding, clean up and rotating puppies so all received proper attention, care and nourishment…the endless days turned into weeks.

On Saturday, May 13th, the day before Mother’s Day, our adoption process began. With “oohs” and “aahs” over Abby’s “Dazzling Dozen,” one by one, the puppies found their forever homes and are now thriving, growing and enjoying the happiness of NOT being a Puppy Mill dog.

Abby along with her son, Harley, and adopted sister, Bella, now resides with her forever family, Pip and Greg, in their beautiful horse community home. She spends her days enjoying the peace and comfort of her new family while knowing that her twelve babies are enjoying the same.

If you would like to help GREAT continue this life-saving mission of bringing Puppy Mill Golden Retrievers out of a bleak existence into the life and luxury of a loving family, please consider making a donation to GREAT Rescue.
