Campaign Details
On the night of Thursday, January 9th, the Chris and Kim Holst family of Lake City, Iowa had a house fire. The fire was situated in the upstairs area near their three daughters' bedrooms. A smoke detector alerted Kim, and she was able to get 1st grader Kira out herself. 6th grader Kjeirsten and 7th grader Kendra were unable to get out on their own. All three girls were flown to Iowa City for treatment.
Kira sustained burns to her face and arms, and Kjeirsten is being treated for smoke inhalation. Kendra is in critical but stable condition with burns and damaged lungs, and has a long road ahead of her. All three are students at South Central Calhoun Schools.
This fundraiser has been set up with Chris and Kim's consent, to help with the expenses that go along with not only a house fire, but with the continuing expenses they will incur as a result of travel and lost wages as well. Please consider making a donation- anything will help!
A HUGE thank you to all those who have expressed their love, prayers, gifts, and well-wishes, as well as to those who are wanting to initiate fundraising activities and events. Chris and Kim ask that anything simply be run through either Destiny Taylor or Angela Dobbins first, to make sure they are aware of those activities. This will be the only online fundraiser. A local bank account will also be set up Monday, January 13th. Details on that will be posted on here as soon as that information is available. Please share this page far and wide, and we will, together, help get this family through their upcoming weeks and months!
**As of Sunday evening, January 12th, Kjeirsten was released, and Kira will follow in the next day or two. Kendra is in for the long haul. The family was fortunate to get a room at the Ronald McDonald House, so they can stay close to Kendra during this time. They potentially have housing lined up when they come home, until work can be completed on their house, but they have yet to be able to examine the damage and see what can be salvaged, so material goods would not be best at this point in time.
