Ava had a rough start in life. The original owner neglected her, resulting in the loss of dorsal spikes. He fed her a substandard diet of pellets and did not give her access to UVB light which is necessary for proper growth and health. Ava’s next owner loved her, but did not give her the proper space to grow; keeping her in a 40 gallon tank for three years. Without enough room to grow, Ava became stunted and disfigured. Her last owners gave her the correct diet and space, but the damage had already been done. In spite of all this, Ava has a spunky personality and is a sweet girl!
The estimated cost of surgery is about $600 if there are no problems, and about $1000 if there are complications. RICA’s funds are limited. Our clinic has changed its policy and is requiring payment in full at time of service, or at least in two payments. Whatever funds that are left over will be used to pay down our running balance of $1500. We are extremely grateful to people like you who believe as we do, that every pet deserves excellent care. She may not show it by wagging her tail or purring, but we think that Ava is grateful too!

About the Organization
Our primary mission is to educate the public on the proper care of the pet green iguana. We also find homes for fostered iguanas, making sure they get the best food, UVB light, and vet care for medical issues.
