American Brittany Rescue initiated an international rescue mission in 2017 after discovering the horrific conditions dogs endure in other countries. Sporting dogs, such as Brittanys, suffer the most because they are viewed as mere 'tools' in places such as Spain and Greece. Many areas of these countries are in dire financial shape, so hunting is viewed as a necessity, rather than a sport. By that logic, if a dog is not a good hunter, it is considered useless. Therefore it is abandoned, shot or poisoned. Even "good" hunters are abused for minor infractions. They rarely, if ever, see the inside of a home. Instead, they are chained outside without shelter. Many receive minimal food or drink to honor the old superstition that a hungry dog hunts better.
Elliott was also a former hunting dog. As a street dog, he was vulnerable to dangers such as being struck by that car. The little French Brittany suffered from severe pain, all alone at the spot where he was run over until a Good Samaritan stepped up to rescue him. We must save these dogs. We must welcome as many as possible to safe and loving families in the United States.
American Brittany Rescue has rescued over 10,000 dogs since its inception 27 years ago. We now have the opportunity to leverage that experience to broaden our mission. ABR teams up with partners overseas who want to rescue these dogs but do not have the resources to do so. Together, we have saved over 200 overseas dogs to date, in countries such as Greece, Spain, Serbia, and Korea. With your help, we can continue to save these dogs and provide them with the life they deserve. Every donation helps make that a reality.
