Earl Needs Your Help

Urgent help needed for Earl!

This is Earl! He is a year old, non-racing greyhound surrendered as a 5-month-old pup to a shelter by a breeder. His left front leg is bowed and he struggles to run and play like a normal puppy. We think his leg was broken when he was tiny. It was not taken care of properly so it healed at an angle. He is ready to enjoy life and play with his buddies, but he needs a brace and orthotic first. Your donation can help us get him ready for adoption.

This is Earl! ... please scroll through the photos of him and watch the video so you can get to know and love him like we do! And please share this campaign with your friends.

Earl is now a year-old. He is a non-racing greyhound that was surrendered as a 5-month-old puppy to the Benson Animal Shelter by a breeder. Fortunately, Animal Shelter personnel called Arizona Greyhound Rescue, and we welcomed him in to our family. He is affectionately known as Earl the Squirrel.

Earl struggles to run and play because he has a bowed front leg!

Earl has had his wellness check, shots, and his neuter surgery. But he has a bowed left front leg and struggles to run and play like a normal puppy. We believe that Earl's leg may have been injured when he was tiny puppy, and it was not set when it could have been. He has had x-rays that have determined that his growth plates are closed. Earl is ready for his next journey... to enjoy life and play with his buddies.

Earl needs our help!

AGR explored many options to fix Earl's leg with a veterinarian and an orthopedic surgeon. All of them are expensive, but we want Earl to have a normal life. Amputating Earl's leg is much too drastic... we feel that would leave Earl without further choices. AGR has decided to work with Kate Titus, Owner of A Loyal Companion who is manufacturing a brace and orthotic for Earl. This will give Earl the ability to move, run, and play like the Greyhound he was meant to be!

Helping Earl will cost $3,000!

Initial Intake, neuter/dental, and Kennel Stay: $400
Preliminary office visits with veterinarian and orthopedic specialist,
including x-rays: $500
Growth plate X-rays and office visit for fitting of brace –
Little Critters Vet Hospital, Gilbert: $200
Brace and Orthotic –
Kate Titus, A Loyal Companion, Tucson: $1,500
Future miscellaneous medical costs and initial supply of
antiinflamatory and joint support Supplements: $400

Please donate and help us help Earl! And please share this campaign with your friends so they can help us too!

Earl’s pictures and x-rays were submitted to the brace company, and, unfortunately they have indicated that a brace could not help Earl. The leg deformity is too severe and there is extensive damage and deformities to his leg and wrist.

AGR was referred to Dr. Ross Lirtzman, an orthopedic vet in Scottsdale. AGR and Dr. Lirtzman discussed different future tests that can be done to determine what option would work the best for Earl. AGR and Earl’s foster family discussed the options and his medical situation. The fosters have made the decision that they want to adopt Earl. His new family loves him very much and will make the decisions going forward on how to proceed with Earl’s treatment plans.

Our sincere thanks to those who supported Earl’s GivingGrid with your generous donations.  You have helped us raise $1,290 which has made it possible for AGR to cover the current medical expenses for Earl.

On behalf of Arizona Greyhound Rescue, I wanted to thank you again for your GivingGrid donation to help Earl! We are already almost half way to our goal of $3,000 for Earl's medical expenses... we currently have $1,205!

Earl's brace and orthotic are currently being produced by a company called OrthoPets. It turned out to be a bit more complicated than was originally thought. So OrthoPets is consulting with their orthopedic advisors to develop a plan for a device that will best work with Earl's condition.

Again, I want to say thank you to you. It is donors like YOU who keep us going! You have our sincere gratitude.
