Critical airlift to save 57 dogs!

Urgent help needed for Pawtcake Refuge !

We're on a deadline and we're scared! The refuge has 2 months until our lease ends and puts everyone out on the streets. God willing, if we can raise the funds, an airlift will happen on July 17th and hopefully there will be 57 wet noses pressed to crates when the plane takes off to brighter futures. It's way overdue!

The expense of moving so many is huge, but we have no choice. Their lives depend on this. Between the plane, ground transport, boarding, vaccines, health checks, etc., it's $1,000 a dog, plus the crates, which are $8K.

Please donate and help get these 57 babies off the island, so they can find the loving homes they deserve.

Campaign Details

After more than a year of waiting for their chance to board an airlift from the island to their future, we hope to finally send 57 dogs on their freedom flight to the US. All of the precious babies in the gallery above and more must get on this flight. We have a huge goal to reach in order to make their dreams a reality, and not much time to do it before the trip in July.

This is Konno.
Last year, a group of Pitbulls were confiscated from a breeder after all the abuse and cruelty done to them. The heat in the Bahamas is no joke. All those poor dogs were outside in full sun inside plastic cubicles.

Konno’s hopeless look in his eyes, had not even a little hope to ever walk away alive from that prison. He, like all the others, were there to mate with each other till the end of time, and when the breeder couldn’t make any money out of them, chances were, they would end up on the streets (or worse).

Not only they were set free that day, but we filled their hearts with hope, we cared for them and loved them and restored their broken hearts and gave them the gift to start all over again.

Konno will be leaving on this airlift to find his much deserved forever home. ❤

It has been so difficult for so long because fundraising has slowed for everyone in rescue and the majority of us find ourselves struggling to arrange adoptions and move animals along to new homes. Foster families are doing their best to help, but there is only so much room in each. People are uncertain about their finances with the cost of living going up, which probably is a major reason that adoptions and donations have slowed everywhere.

Once a foster dog goes to its forever family, the next pup gets their spot on the couch and so on… but it’s not happening fast enough!

Here are a couple of my babies that have already found wonderful forever homes in the states, thanks to these airlifts:

Look how safe and content Pawline feels in her loving home... ❤️

And here's incredibly happy Heloise in her wonderful home... 💕

As you’ve heard, Pawtcake Refuge is in danger of closing completely, which would be devastating. Our lease has been on shaky ground for almost a year and this time the landlord has had it with the constant barking of the dogs.

Any available land that could be a good location is scarce, and the price tag for anything so far has been out of this world.

We need a miracle and we need it soon! The alternative is too heartbreaking to think about.

What will happen to those who don’t make it on this airlift? Where will everyone go, if we can’t find another place to allow the refuge to relocate? What becomes of the voiceless souls still wandering the streets, if there is no refuge to be their salvation?

Please help us to fund this escape (that is what it feels like) - dogs who can fly away from this island will be freed from the uncertain life coming for those left behind.

We need you like never before…

Love,
Chella

More happy news for my babies that left on the July 17th airlift! ?

    Shelby ??
A sad baby girl came to the refuge over a year ago, disoriented and shy after her family begged for help for her. They had a child that had to be airlifted to the States and was Shelby’s playmate and her everything, but sadly, the child died of cancer.

Just 2 days from arriving to Miles to Freedom rescue in Maine, Shelby had a meet a greet and stole the hearts of her new family. ?

    Lilah ??
A year ago, a little homeless girl was being gang raped during her heat cycle and a female pitbull in the neighborhood kept attacking her. The lady that called for help feared the pitbull would end up killing her, so to the refuge she came. In July 17th, she also boarded the plane that took her to Maine.

In 2 days she found an amazing family to love her that took her home. ?

These are the happy endings that I pray for my babies to have after all the sorrow in their lives... a loving home where no harm can ever come to them, and to be happy for the rest of their lives.

Thank you, Morgan Miles and Kristina Donnellan, from Miles to Freedom, for being the key that opened the door to their happy new beginnings... I am forever grateful! ?

Thank you, to all our friends and supporters that contributed for the airlift to become a dream come true for them.. Thank you! ?

    Love,
    Chella & Pawtcake Refuge

A video and a special message from Chella and Pawtcake Refuge:

    "And off they went!

From a terrible life on the streets, after being thrown away like garbage by their families, my darlings have arrived in the States to start a fresh beginning!

We could not have done any of this without your help and generous contributions. Everyone coming together for the sake of my homeless has been the reason it’s now possible for their lives to change from the destiny they were born into. They no longer have a dead end existence on this island but will find loving families to treasure them as they deserve.

First we must thank all of our supporters who reached into their hearts, and felt compelled to lend us a helping hand with our fundraiser. Without your donations, this airlift could never have happened. We so appreciate the support you give to Pawtcake Refuge.

A huge thank you goes out to Dan Hoffman and GivingGrid for always helping us to raise funds for the refuge. Their platform makes our fundraising so successful.

We must thank the Department of Agriculture for allowing permits for my babies to fly away from Nassau and enter the States. Also our vet clinics here that treated them for everything imaginable and got them healthy for the journey to their futures:

Dr Davis, from All Creatures Animal Clinic
Dr Dorsett, from Nassau Pet Clinic
Dr Sands, from Central Animal Hospital
Dr Solomon, from Family Pet Clinic.

We must acknowledge the efforts of the refuge workers, who keep the dogs fed and cared for on a daily basis. The hours may be longer getting everyone ready to fly, but the results are immeasurable and I truly appreciate your hard work.

We owe the biggest gratitude to the rescues that stepped up to say they would take in some of my homeless:

Angie Payne and Lil Rascals Dog Rescue
Jessica McNaull and Lil Rascals Dog Rescue
Morgan Miles and Miles To Freedom Animal Rescue
Katie Liberty and Blessed Be the Bullies
Kelly Ouellete and Pulled From The Pits
    Christine Williams and Tru Rescue
    Megan Dobbs and Tru Rescue
    Doberman League Animal Rescue
    Kristina Donnellan
Ashley Miller and Mutty Paws Rescue.

Without you, they’d still be stuck here; we hope you will continue to find room for our potcakes. Rescue partners mean everything to us! Please take care of my children and guard them as I have done since I brought them into Pawtcake Refuge.

We want to thank the transports that moved the dogs along the way:

IBC Airways who provide the airplanes to get everyone from the island into the States and Sali and her entire team from the ground transportation that safely drives our precious cargo to the receiving rescues up North.

Thanks also go to my NY crew: Lisa Rose and Wendy Whittall for working so hard to accomplish everything necessary to allow this airlift to take flight.

It was such a long time waiting for this airlift, due to overcrowded rescues everywhere and no room available to place my dogs. Finally things aligned - we do incredible work when everyone comes together to make it happen. We will try to keep our friends updated with stories of their lives as they find their forever homes.

    Thank you AGAIN!"

    Love,
    Chella & Pawtcake Refuge

    We did it!

Thanks to your generous donations, we have now met the goal to send 57 of my homeless on our airlift next week. Because you cared enough to give, those lives that were destined to spend their days struggling for every meal and bit of comfort on the brutal streets of this island will now change forever.

They will have soft beds, good food and the loving touch of forever families. We can not thank you enough for finding the funds to donate in these tough times. A small sacrifice by many can make incredible things happen, as will be proven on Monday when the plane takes off, fully loaded and headed for their bright futures.

I am so grateful - and so are they…

    Thank you!
    Chella and Pawtcake Refuge

First, a giant thank you for helping us get to 80% of our goal, for the money we need to get 57 doggies off the island and onto a new beginning! Their new lives don’t happen without your help!

Unfortunately, we have to postpone the airlift until the 17th. It turns out that the airline we hired has not been approved by the USDA, even though they told us they were. Thankfully, we checked with the USDA ahead of time, because it could have been disastrous. They truly believed they were approved, apologized and refunded our deposit immediately.

We’ve now chartered the flight from the company we’ve used in the past for the 17th and all is well. They weren’t available on the 10th, which is why we hired the other airline. It’s only a one-week delay, so no big deal… It also gives us a little more time to prepare and raise the rest of the funds needed. We apologize for the delay and hope you understand…

This handsome boy is Qaani and thanks to you and so many others, he will be enjoying his freedom flight to the USA with 56 other babies!

    We love you!

On New Years Eve, several posts were shared by the locals about a sick puppy being outside the parking lot of a police station. For days he was seen there but nobody really put in the effort to take him to safety.

I was tagged by many people on the post but reading that some were going there to help, I never went, trusting he would be safe. But nobody went. It stormed for days so bad and I imagine him hiding and trying to find cover under the bench.

When finally someone went for him, she took him to the shelter hoping they would take him but they only offered her to go next door to animal control. The lady knew what happens in AC, and she reached out to me as his last hope. With open arms we opened our gates for Uffe and welcomed him.

The mange would last several months to heal and he was so miserable with the itching ripping his own skin till it bled. Who knows what the future for him would had been if not for that lady that picked him up and refused to drop him at animal control. But what I do know is that he now has a future and an amazing journey waiting for him, as he will be part of our airlift scheduled for July 10th.

Kindness is what saved so many innocents on the streets. With just a little they would give you their everything!

Thanks to you and more than 600 other wonderful people, we've reached about 70% of our goal for the money we need for our airlift. It's supposed to happen in about a week and we still need about $19,000. Please help Uffe get the dream to be on the plane that will fly him closer to his loving home... He and 56 other dogs scheduled to leave the island, are worth it for everything good that life can offer them. If just half of you shared this campaign, it would help so much! We must get them the lives they deserve...

Thank you with all my heart,
    Chella & Pawtcake Refuge

What an amazing outpouring love and caring! As I write, we're at almost $30,000!! ?? Still a long way to go, but major progress!

The airlift is about 2 weeks and away and we're making progress. We just received USDA approval to bring the dogs into the US. Lots more to do...

I wanted to share a quick story about why these airlifts are so important. This is my baby Popeya when I found her. This is where she decided to make her bed that day.

She was nothing but skin and bones, weak from malnutrition and diseases the street inflicts on those who are unwanted. The toll of feeding on scraps of garbage and sleeping on hard concrete can be seen...

Popeya's life changed forever at the refuge, where our love and care put life back into her. And look at her now!! Can you believe that's the same dog? ????

This baby and 56 others will be on that plane to begin the new life she and all the others deserve, one filled with love!

Please, please continue to share this campaign with others you think might want to help too. We still need to raise another $35,000 to get them home.

    We'll update you again soon.

Thank you with all my heart,
    Chella & Pawtcake Refuge
