Poly was abandoned on a park bench in the Santa Barbara, CA area... blind and terrified - too scared to even get off the bench. She had just had babies too. Thankfully, she was found by a Santa Barbara County Animal Services Officer. She came in with many medical problems and Foreverhome Pet Rescue stepped in to help her. You can follow her at: https://www.facebook.com/PolyBlindPibble
Poly has several medical issues that require expensive diagnostics and potentially expensive surgeries... so here we are, asking for help. Poly is only three years old. She deserves to be comfortable and loved for a very long time.
Her conditions are:
- Skin lesions, hair loss, itchy skin
- Ear infections
- Heart murmur, of big concern to both the shelter vet and her general vet
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Total blindness
She has already had a general exam and full blood panel... and she's being treated for her skin condition and her ear infections.
She needs to see a veterinary cardiologist and a veterinary ophthalmologist to determine a course of action going forward - and between the two appointments it is going to cost a pretty penny... and then there may be surgery and or medications. Once we have initial bloodwork results, she may need to see a cancer vet as well :(
Please help Poly and share her story. We will update here and on Facebook often.
UPDATE 10/29/15:
Poly DOES NOT HAVE CANCER!!! Her bloodwork came back normal! Also, her skin condition is not contagious and is healing.
Poly will be seeing the veterinary cardiologist and the veterinary opthalmologist very soon!
Her fundraising goal to pay for the specialists and the diagnostics for her heart and eyes has been reached! Please continue to donate in case she needs heart and/or eye surgery. She will continue to update regularly on her Facebook page! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED HER!
UPDATE 11/4/15:
Poly had a full cardiology exam and an echocardiogram. Sadly, the news isn't good. She has several congenital defects - including an enlarged heart and both aortic and mitral valve dysplasia. The doctor was very surprised that she has been asymptomatic based on the severity of her heart issues. There is no way to know how long she will survive - it could be months, it could be years.
Dr. Cole is going to put her on some heart medications and re-evaluate her in a couple of weeks. He thinks he may be able to improve her condition and prolong her life with a balloon surgery to straighten out her valves... but that remains to be seen. Any surgery is dangerous for her.
All of this also means that regardless of the situation with her eyes, she will not be able to have eye surgery. We do not believe that her eyes are painful - she does not show any signs of discomfort - but we will follow through with her ophthalmologist appointment next week in an effort to ensure that there is no pain and to find out what her eye issues are and how they came about. She has likely been blind her entire life - and however much we would like to help her see, her vision is not more important than her life.
We will update here after each appointment - or you can follow her daily activities on her Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/PolyBlindPibble
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT! PLEASE KEEP SHARING!
UPDATE 11/14/15
Hi everyone! This last couple of weeks we got all the information about Poly's medical needs. There is some heart surgery ahead for her... but nothing can be done about her eyes :(
You can follow her daily at https://www.facebook.com/PolyBlindPibble
Thank you for your donations! We can't wait to start helping other rescue doggies after Poly's needs are taken care of.
See Poly's Facebook Dear Diary post from today:
Dear Diary,
I found out last week from the heart doctor that my heart is broken. I am gonna have an operation to help with my valves, but I was born with an owie in my heart that will make my life very short and the doctor can't fix that part.
I found out yesterday that I will never be able to see. I was born with eye owies that the doctors can't fix.
I used to live outside only on the dirt. I was a mommy a couple times out there in the dirt. Nobody cared about me. Then I was left on a bench in a park by myself. Until the rescue ladies helped me, I had never had any good treats or pets.
The rescue ladies are sad because my broken heart makes me poop out fast and I can't do big adventures cuz it might hurt my heart owie. They wanted to do something called a bucket list for me... but I can't go far places or I get stressed out.
Can you help me with my bucket?
The rescue ladies made me a website (whatever that is!) so you can take me on fun adventures WITH YOU!

THANK YOU FOR HELPING ME "SEE" THE WORLD!
