Urgent expenses

We urgently need your help!

There is a crisis at the refuge right now.
Chella was very badly bitten while helping a street dog and she is in the hospital awaiting consultation with an orthopedic surgeon. She has arm fractures and nerve damage that will need surgery to repair.

We don't have too much information yet, but it's certain that it will take some time for Chella to recover enough to get back in action. Someone is going to need to be hired immediately in order to do her normal workload for a while. If you can assist with the unexpected expense, it would help to ease some of Chella's stress over this situation.

Anything you can give is much appreciated…

Chella is going to need orthopedic surgery to repair the fractures and nerve damage to her arm. The refuge emergency funds have been so depleted but having to hire additional people who can cover all of the workload that Chella would normally do on a daily basis is an absolute necessity.

We really need your support to keep things running through this crisis…

PLEASE HELP with anything you can spare!!

    ????<<GRAPHIC IMAGES>>????

I have been bitten many times before, but nothing compared to last week’s attack.
I was horrified when the bandages came off today for cleaning. I had no idea it was like this, that I screamed crying to face the aftermath.
The doctor said it will take at least a year with therapy for the nerve damage to heal…if ever…
The pain I am in is not laughable. Yet, I drove my own car like this to the clinic because my worker did not come to work because he had a headache…imagine that.

I have been reading your sweet comments wishing me well. Thank you!
What happened that day was nobody's fault…and in any event, I would take the blame for everything because I knew the danger I was in when I intervened and used my body to protect other innocent souls from being easy prey. I was in the middle of an adrenaline fueled moment until others came to my aid, and when I realized what just happened, I said to myself…he just killed me.

I sleep a lot due to the medication; a luxury I couldn't afford in the past, and now I am forced to somehow. The most minimal task is now impossible to achieve on my own and I feel useless when there is so much to be done at my refuge.
I am going to need time to heal the physical wounds but as for the mental trauma, it’s going to take a while. I am now scared and keep reliving the attack over and over, and that puts me in a vulnerable position…but no, I am not quitting and packing my bags and leaving the Bahamas.
Everything that I love is here and I am staying with them, and for them.

I am forever grateful and humbled by the outpouring of support in this difficult time. You have no idea what it means to me that I am not alone when I go down. Thank you…to each of you…to all of you.

Chella has arm fractures and nerve damage that needed surgery to repair. She had to stay hospitalized for longer than hoped, due to infection precautions. She will need to have therapy, as her hand is now numb due to the damaged nerves.

Although still in significant pain today, she has convinced the doctors to release her. Worry about how she is going to cover the medical care has her reeling. The hospital is ‘out of network’ and the bill skyrocketed in just two days that pushed finances to the limit. Having the added expense of hiring workers to perform all of her usual daily duties is another huge stress.

Chella needs to be on bed rest until she’s able to reduce pain meds enough to safely be ambulatory. Even then, her abilities will be extremely limited without use of her left arm. If you can help with the unexpected expenses, it would ease some of Chella's stress and allow her to rest and recover.

Anything you can give is very much appreciated…

After receiving the surgery needed to fix the fractures and nerve damage, Chella had to stay hospitalized to keep an eye out for potential infection. There were severe bites to both arms, with a complete fracture to the left forearm.

This tragedy was an instance of Chella trying to prevent a huge dog from attacking others, and then being turned on herself. There is danger in rescue, especially when dealing with multiple dogs at once, where it’s possible for them to react violently in an instant. It was a terrible event but it could have been much worse…we are thankful for that.

We are so very grateful for your help in supporting the refuge, and Chella, through this ordeal. Please keep her in your prayers and we will update you all whenever new information is available.
