Campaign Details
In 2016, Pets Alive saved over 600 companion animals, many from life-threatening situations, and we spent over $90,000 in medical expenses. 2017 is shaping up to be a similar year with medical needs for so many animals. Remie and Alfred came from different walks of life but both have one thing in common. They are both sick and need your help. And don't forget to share this with friends and family so they too can help!
Remie was in bad shape when she came to Pets Alive in December 2016. She had flea infestation so bad that some of her fur was missing. This was treated immediately, requiring medication. Perhaps even more alarming were the 2 large growths on her the mammary glands that would require surgery.
Lucky for Remie, a foster family came along almost immediately, willing to care for Remie as she struggled to regain her health.
She's now undergone two surgeries to remove many benign and cancerous growths from her mammary gland area.
A review of Remie's case by an oncologist yielded good news. They did not recommend any additional chemotherapy right now as the cancer was localized and removed. She is healing well and we pray the cancer remains in remission. Remie is now able to go out and about and is pictured here (smaller dog on the right) with a friend she made at a recent outing.
However, Remie's new challenge is her mouth...she needs major dental work. It was too risky to do the dental work while she was undergoing surgery, therefore we are waiting for her to heal a bit and will be scheduling her dental appointment in the coming weeks. We estimate the cost of dental to be between $500-$1,000. This is in addition to the over $2,500 we've already spent on her care. Therefore we are still fundraising to cover her medical expenses.
Mange is a parasitic skin disease caused by microscopic mites and is very painful. We started him on medicated baths several times a day and he's on medication and a feeding schedule. Last week, we took him in for a checkup and the veterinarian did additional testing to determine what, if any, additional treatment is needed to help Alfred. This poor guy, about 7 years old, does not deserve the pain he has endured. He is now able to get up and go for walks at our sanctuary. One of the pictures below shows him on a recent walk.
We estimate Alfred's treatment could cost over $2,000.
You can read a more in-depth story about Remie and Alfred's rescue HERE. If you've already donated to help Remie and Alfred - THANK YOU! They could not have made such progress without your help.
Pets Alive is a no kill animal sanctuary located on 80 acres in Middletown, NY. We are a nonprofit 501c3 organization with a mission to improve the lives of dogs, cats and farm animals in need by any means possible, including rescue, adoption, advocacy, collaboration, intervention and education. It is through private donations from generous people and organizations that we are able to further our mission.
We desperately need to continually replenish our Medical Fund to enable us to help more animals like Remie and Alfred that are in need. We no sooner "recoup" from one rescue, when another comes along. Won't you make a gift now to help Remie and Alfred?
Pictured here are photos of Remie (the brown and white hound dog) and Alfred (the black dog). Shown are Remie with her foster family. The growth that was removed is very obvious. He's also shown here after his surgery. Alfred is shown arriving at Pets Alive - and you can see the state of his skin condition in the pictures taken during his veterinarian visit. And his most recent picture of him taking a walk at our sanctuary.
Thank you so very much - and do share this GivingGrid with friends and family!
