Campaign Details
For 20 years, Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, MI has been offering accessible and affordable skating programs for community athletes, with heavy emphasis on the region's youth. The programs offered at Centre Ice provide a safe, healthy, enjoyable and nurturing environment for young people, something that is critical for positive growth and development.
However, Centre Ice is perhaps most famous for welcoming the Detroit Red Wings Training Camp and NHL Prospect Tournament to the rink for 20 years, too! As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, these events are important fundraisers which allow Centre Ice to keep the cost of ice time as low as possible for all user groups.
Things nearly changed for 2018. Recently implemented NHL safety standards mandate that every ice rink hosting events involving NHL players perform extensive and expensive rink renovations. With a total renovation cost of $220,000, Centre Ice found the expense daunting. It appeared as though Red Wings Training Camp and NHL Prospect Tournament would no longer take place in Traverse City.
The community and Red Wings fan base spoke up and said "No! These beloved events must return!"
TC Tourism came forward with a generous investment in community benefit which provided the catalyst that the Red Wings needed to commit to returning to Traverse City for multiple years. With those two important elements in place, Centre Ice decided to move forward with the renovations which will make the rink safer for every athlete and spectator. Centre Ice will be one of only a handful of private-use ice rinks in the U.S. offering such high safety standards.
Centre Ice still needs to raise at least $110,000 for the necessary renovations. YOU SPOKE. WE LISTENED. LET'S WORK AS A TRUE TEAM TO HIT THE GOAL AND RENOVATE THE RINK!
PS - Please share our campaign with people you know that would also love to help!
